Mr. Perkins served as chief of police for the Henderson Police Department, overseeing law enforcement operations, public safety initiatives, strategic planning, and community partnerships. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, he received the Clark County District Attorney's Meritorious Award and the Nevada Attorney General's Silver State Leadership Award for his work in child abuse investigations.
His service also extended to the Nevada Legislature, where he became the state's second-longest-serving speaker of the assembly. During his tenure, he authored landmark legislation that established Nevada State College (now Nevada State University), created the Nevada Homeland Security Commission and the state's Amber Alert system, and secured funding for full-day kindergarten.
